The association was created and is composed of women who are former victims of trafficking, who for years have been fighting to rescue Nigerian girls who are victims of this phenomenon from the streets.
The women of Benin City have built new lives in Palermo, where they live with their families and children. They know how to talk to these girls, and the shared dialect and past is a fundamental element that reassures the girls who fear voodoo.
Their role as cultural mediators, who understand voodoo, the way of thinking and living, and the religious symbols of their country, becomes crucial in helping these girls, not only to escape trafficking but also to embark on a path of reclaiming their identity and their own lives.
In recent years, the association has helped more than 65 girls, both minors and adults, leave the streets.
